The Traditional Annual Helpful Catboy Plot Summary
❧ This week kicked off with a few revelations about Camelot's history via Lancelot's Confession Post. Mordred unexpectedly returned from the Dark Woods at this time, without any of the other knights who had gone out to look for help, took over Lancelot's story, and claimed that King Arthur was dead.
❧ Following Mordred's arrival, Nimue sent a group out to an unknown location in the forest, to open a path for King Arthur, who she did not believe was dead. However, she was forced to pull everyone back when the situation became untenable, and was struck by some force as she closed her portal behind them.
❧ On Friday, Camelot, left vulnerable by the withdrawal of the Snow Queen, was invaded by the Darkness. Shadows attacked, reflections turned strange and held people in thrall, vines overtook the West Wall, a great flock of crows appeared, and things were generally unpleasant all around! The Darkness caused petrification and decay to anyone it touched, but mostly its forms were too ephemeral to fight back against with any great success.
❧ Beauty set out her lantern to drive back the Darkness as much as she could, but was interrupted by Maleficent, who insisted that she go back inside. Beauty's shadow then attacked Mal; Beauty, in pushing her out of the way of the attack, was badly stabbed through the middle by her own shadow. This caused the world to temporarily begin to fall apart as Beauty (and therefore her spell) weakened drastically.
❧ Luckily, after Mal dragged her back into the Great Hall, Sterling and Onyx's knights, with the support of the heroes in attendance, managed to use the tethering light of their keys to draw their strength together and heal Beauty. Mal then got her to sleep it off.
❧ Aather's condition stabilized along with Beauty's, but some damage was done; some trees and landmarks were left two dimensional, dark tears in reality still hung in the air, and the Darkness remained in Camelot through the long night . . .
❧ BUT THEN AT DAWN, King Arthur emerged from the path Nimue had opened and summoned those Alumni Heroes who were willing to come to face the Darkness! At the King's challenge, the Darkness solidified into an opposing army, within and without Camelot's walls.
❧ To aid in the fight, Merlin provided all our worthies with the temporary ability to perform a shielding spell through their keys, which worked more strongly in concert with teammates.
❧ Aather's warriors fought valiantly against the army, alongside King Arthur and Queen Guinevere.
❧ Meanwhile, those with other talents followed Mal and Beauty up the West Wall to drive back the Darkness vines that had overtaken it, or worked to heal the petrification victims with a medicine developed by Apple.
❧ At last, the two forces were victorious! The remnants of the army fled into the woods, the wall was regained (if weakened now, and held together with duct tape, rubble, and inspirational graffiti), and the battlefield lay quiet.
❧ The Darkness still had one more trick left up its sleeve, though. It amassed itself into a giant wave poised to completely swamp Camelot.
❧ The collective response to this was pretty much FUCK YOU, which was actually super effective
❧ Finally, everyone was able to stand down and begin to recover. Arthur thanked everyone for their efforts, and a little later on provided a party for everyone to celebrate with while visiting old friends!
