HELLO CHILDREN, I am here to tell you about the Mr. Right take-home game that I'm running in a few weeks, which will be a Skill-Share game! It will run several OOC days, starting on Friday, May 24th, at 8pm EST and run until Monday, May 27th, at 8pm EST. Turn-in will be a survey, and there is some OOC pregame stuff that will need to be turned in before game start.
I am going to explain how all of this is going to go down under the cut, so please read on!
What is skill share?
Just what it sounds like! Your character gets to share one of their skills or abilities with their teammates of choice, and their teammates get to share one of their skills or abilities in return! Since this game is skill share, no one loses any of their skills in the process; you don't have to worry about not being able to see for the duration of the game in exchange for giving your blind teammate sight, for example. What counts as a skill or ability can be interpreted widely--certainly you can share skills that your character has earned back on their registry, but you can also share things that are more innate if your character is lacking in the skills department. For example, if Lestat's Louis were here he could share "ability to take the fun out of everything" or "ability to make everything about yourself" or "ability to lament how terrible your life is when you're damn well better off than like 90% of the people around you" etc. etc. Anyone Louis shared these skills with wouldn't necessarily turn into a brooding passive-aggressive whiner, but they would have the option to do so! :D
Another example is when I played Naoto in the last skill share game, she didn't have any skills back so I had the option to share things like "critical thinking" and "logical analysis" since that's more innate for her but didn't fall under her skill of being a detective since that was a separate skill she hadn't earned back yet.
Who can share and how many?
Anyone! Heroes, knights, and legacy heroes may all participate. Heroes have the option of sharing up to eight skill slots; five MUST be reserved for your teammates, the othertwo ETA: THREE can be shared with anyone (teammates, non-teammates, knights, or legacy heroes). However, if less than five people from your team play, you cannot swap out your remaining skill slots to share additional skills to knights/non-teammates/legacies. All sharing must be mutual, sorry :( You may share the same skill multiple times, and for characters with a small number of skills or abilities this is highly encouraged. It's totally legit if your character wants to share their flying skill with their team and share telepathy with a knight and a non-teammate, or share telepathy with their teammates, flying with a knight, and don't do anything with the last open slot.
Knights have the option of sharing up to five skills with anyone; other knights, heroes, or legacy heroes. If you share a skill with one of the heroes, they must also reserve one of their two non-teammate slots for you, so keep that in mind. Legacy heroes may also play, but they may only share up to three skills--like knights, these can be with anyone. They also don't have to do a turn-in, obviously.
What's the goal here?
To have fun and enjoy wacky hijinks, but on an IC level the goal of the game will be to exchange perspectives and get to know your teammates and fellow Aatherians better, possibly in ways you didn't really want to. Especially in ways you didn't really want to. :)
What's the necessary pregame stuff?
Basically it's to determine what skills your characters will be sharing! It's also to cut down on IC discussion so that when the game goes up, you can just assume all the skill sharing decisions were offscreen'd and get right to playing with your temporary new skills. The team headers in this post will be for that purpose, so feel free to discuss them however you like, just so long as you come to a final decision by the time the game goes up in a few weeks.
Questions/comments?
ETA Please note the change from seven to eight skill slots for heroes!!
